The addresses on the new site. One URL or path per line, a CSV export, or a sitemap .xml file.

Redirect type

Both are permanent. 301 is the usual choice.

Leave the domains empty when your lists have full URLs. With paths only, the old domain is needed for the Cloudflare export.

Runs in your browser. Your lists and files are not uploaded.

Paste your old and new URLs to build the map

Each old URL is matched to a new one by its path, its slug or a similar name, with a confidence score. You can change any match, then export the rules for Apache, nginx, Cloudflare or the WordPress Redirection plugin. Or press Try an example.

About the Website Migration Redirect Mapper

Paste or open your old and new URLs as lists, CSV exports or sitemap XML files. Each old URL is matched to a new one by its exact path, the same slug in another folder, or a similar slug or title, with our confidence score, and you can change any match. The map is checked for redirect chains, loops, shared targets, query strings, trailing slash and case changes, and http or www changes. Then export it as Apache or nginx rules, a Cloudflare Bulk Redirects CSV, a WordPress Redirection CSV or a plain CSV. It runs in your browser, and your lists are not uploaded.

How it works

  1. Step 1

Paste your old URLs and your new URLs, or open a list, CSV or sitemap.xml file for each. Press Try an example to see a 25-page clinic site.

  2. Step 2

Look at the matches marked Need a look: pick a better new page, or leave a page with no equivalent empty so it returns 404 or 410.

  3. Step 3

Fix what the checks flag, export the rules for your server, test them on a copy of the site, and follow the launch checklist.

What Google asks for in a site move

Google's site move guide asks you to map each old URL to its new URL and use server-side permanent redirects (301 or 308), straight to the final address. Update internal links, canonical tags and hreflang, submit a sitemap of the new URLs, and keep the redirects for as long as possible, generally at least 1 year. Use Search Console's Change of Address tool only when the domain changes.

Why not send everything to the home page

Google says redirecting many old URLs to one irrelevant page, such as the home page, can confuse users and may be treated as a soft 404. Send each old URL to the page that replaces it, and let an old URL with no equivalent return 404 or 410. This tool flags home page and section fallbacks, so you decide each one.

What this tool cannot do

It matches by the addresses and any titles in your file, not by reading the pages, so check the weaker matches yourself; the confidence score is our measure. It does not test your server: after launch, check a sample with our Redirect Checker. Cloudflare Bulk Redirects cannot match query strings, and every export is a starting point to test on a copy of your site.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use a 301 or a 308 redirect?

Both are permanent, and Google uses both as a strong signal that the new URL should be the one shown in search. 301 is the usual choice for a site move, and every server and plugin supports it. Temporary redirects (302 and 307) are only a weak signal, so do not use them when pages have moved for good.

How long should I keep the redirects?

Google's site move guide says: "Keep the redirects for as long as possible, generally at least 1 year." If the domain changed and you used the Change of Address tool, Search Console Help asks for at least 180 days, longer while Google still sends traffic to the old URLs. Links from other sites keep working for as long as the redirects stay.

How do I redirect URLs with ?page= or other query strings?

Apache's Redirect lines and RewriteRule patterns never see the query string, so the RewriteRule export adds a RewriteCond line for each parameter and ends the target with "?" to drop the old query string. The nginx map export matches $request_uri, the full address with its query string. Cloudflare Bulk Redirects cannot include a query string in a source URL, so those rows are left out of that export.

What is a redirect chain, and why fix it?

A chain is a redirect to an address that redirects again, for example an old URL sent to a page that has itself moved. Google's crawlers follow up to 10 hops, but Google advises redirecting straight to the final URL. This tool finds chains in your map and exports each old URL straight to its final address. It also finds loops, which never end, and leaves them out until you fix them.

Do I need the Change of Address tool?

Only when the domain changes, for example from sharmasweets.example to sharmasweetsindore.example. It is not for moving from http to https, adding or removing www, or changing paths on the same domain. You must own both properties in Search Console with the same Google account, and submit it for every verified version of the old domain.
