GST and TDS: what we could check
- GST registration: needed once your aggregate turnover in a financial year crosses ₹20 lakh for services, or ₹10 lakh in special category states (section 22 of the CGST Act). Some suppliers must register whatever their turnover (section 24).
- GST rate: we could not confirm the rate for creator services from an official source, so we leave it out. Ask your CA.
- TDS on products and other benefits: a business that gives you a benefit, such as a product you keep after a post, deducts TDS at 10% of its value once its benefits to you cross ₹20,000 in a financial year. This was section 194R of the Income-tax Act, 1961; from 1 April 2026 it is in section 393 of the Income-tax Act, 2025. A product you return after the post is not a benefit (CBDT Circular 12/2022), and GST is not counted in the value.
- TDS on fees: brands may deduct TDS from your fees under other rules. Ask your CA which applies to you.
