How to use the AI Citation Loss Analyzer

Read what the guide says

This is the AI Citation Loss Analyzer.

It finds the likely reasons AI answers stopped citing your page.

Use it when a page that used to appear in AI answers no longer does.

It checks access, indexing, freshness, structure, and the page cited instead.

Enter the page that lost the citation.

Here, it's a sample page for a made-up dental clinic.

Add the page cited now and the question, if you know them.

Then press Find the cause.

You get the possible causes, the most likely first, each with a likelihood.

Here, the most likely cause is that the page asks not to be indexed.

Each cause shows the evidence we found, and the fix.

Here, a noindex tag is set. Remove it if the page should be found,

then request indexing in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.

Next: the page cited now is a better answer.

It has more words, question headings, figures and structured data.

Check it in detail opens the AI Citation Gap Checker.

Third, the page shows no date, while the competitor's page does.

What looks fine lists the checks that passed.

We can't see the answers, so compare the date of the loss with your own changes.

Fix the causes from the top, then run the check again.

Crawlers need to visit again after a fix, which can take days to weeks.

You can also email yourself a PDF of the result.

About the AI Citation Loss Analyzer

Your page used to appear in AI answers and now it does not. Enter it, and optionally the question and the page that is cited instead, and we check the usual causes: the page cannot be loaded, it is set to noindex or points elsewhere with a canonical, robots.txt or a firewall blocks AI crawlers, the content needs JavaScript, it looks out of date, it is hard to quote, it does not answer the question directly, the competitor's page is a better answer, or it misses topics the competitor covers. Each cause gets a likelihood, the evidence we found and the fix.

How it works

  1. Step 1

Enter the page that lost the citation.

  2. Step 2

Add the question it was cited for and the page cited now, if you know them. They make the diagnosis much sharper.

  3. Step 3

Fix the causes from the top: the most likely ones are listed first, with the evidence.

How likelihood is judged

Problems that stop AI crawlers reading the page (errors, noindex, blocks) are very likely causes. Signs that weaken a page against others (old dates, hard-to-quote text, a stronger competitor page) are likely or possible. If nothing on the page explains the loss, the cause is probably off the page: the answer now relies on other sources.

What it cannot see

We do not see your citation history or the answers themselves. Compare the date you noticed the loss with your own changes: a redesign, a migration, a new firewall, plugin or theme.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the page cited instead?

Ask the same question in the AI assistant and open the sources the answer links to. Use the one that covers the same topic as your page.

Can a page lose citations without any change?

Yes. Answers change when competitors publish better pages, when your page ages, or when the assistant favours different sources. That is why the competitor comparison matters.

How long until citations come back?

After a fix, AI search crawlers need to visit again, which can take days to weeks. Updating the sitemap date and requesting indexing in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools helps.
