About the Marketplace Fee and Profit Calculator

Type one product's cost and, for each platform, your selling price and the fees from your own rate card: commission or referral fee, fixed or closing fee, shipping and other fees, plus the GST charged on fees and the TCS and TDS rates on your payment reports. The tool works out the payout per order, your profit and margin, the break-even selling price and the price for a target margin on Amazon.in, Flipkart, Meesho and your own shop side by side, and shows which leaves you the most. No fee or tax rate is built in, because fees change by category and over time. It runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded and no seller account is connected.

Payout is not profit

The payout is what reaches your bank for one order: the selling price minus the platform's fees, the GST on those fees, and any TCS and TDS. Profit then takes out the GST in your selling price, which you pay to the government, and your product and packaging costs. If you claim back the GST on fees as input tax credit, or claim back TCS and TDS in your returns, tick those boxes: they then lower the payout but not the profit. A person who is not registered for GST cannot collect GST from buyers or claim input tax credit, so for them the GST on fees is a cost.

How the break-even price is worked out

The break-even price is the selling price at which profit is zero with the same fees: the costs per order that do not change with the price (fixed fee, shipping, other fees, product and packaging) divided by what each rupee of price leaves after GST, commission and any taxes you count as costs. The price for a target margin works the same way, keeping that share of the price before GST as profit. These formulas are our measure, and the table shows each step. Amazon.in bases its closing fee on the product price, so check the fixed or closing fee on your rate card at the new price.

What this tool cannot do

It does not know any marketplace's fees and does not sign in to Seller Central, Seller Hub or the Meesho supplier panel, so the result is only as good as the rates you type. It leaves out returns, return-to-origin orders, ads on the marketplace, storage and penalties unless you add them as other fees. It works out TCS and TDS on the price before GST (our assumption), so your payment report may differ slightly. It is not tax advice: check GST, TCS and TDS with your CA.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the calculator not fill in Amazon or Flipkart fees?

Marketplace fees change often and differ by category and price, so any rate we filled in could be wrong for your product. Copy the rates from your own rate card in Seller Central, Seller Hub or the Meesho supplier panel. The Try an example button fills in made-up rates only to show how the tool works.

What is the difference between payout and profit?

The payout is what the platform sends to your bank for one order after its fees, the GST on those fees, and any TCS and TDS. Your profit is what is left after you also take out the GST in the selling price and the cost of the product and packaging, with any GST on fees, TCS or TDS you claim back left out of the costs.

What are TCS and TDS on marketplace payouts?

TCS is tax collected at source under section 52 of the CGST Act; from 10 July 2024 its central (CGST) part is 0.25% of the net value of taxable supplies within a State (Notification 15/2024-Central Tax). TDS is tax deducted at source under income tax; the Income Tax Department's rate chart lists 0.1% for e-commerce payments under section 194-O, and from 1 April 2026 TDS comes under section 393 of the Income-tax Act, 2025. The tool leaves both blank: copy the rates from your reports and check them with your CA, and tick the box if you claim them back.

How is the GST in my selling price handled?

The tool treats the selling price as what the buyer pays. For a registered seller, it takes out GST at the product rate you type, and works out profit and margin on the price before GST. If you are not registered for GST, untick the box: you cannot collect GST from buyers, and the GST on fees becomes a cost because you cannot claim input tax credit.

Why is my own shop not always the best?

Your own shop has no marketplace commission, but you pay for the payment gateway, the courier, shop apps and the ads that bring buyers to you. Put those in the own shop tab as fees and other costs per order to compare fairly. For the cost of cash on delivery and returns, the True ROAS Calculator can help.
