About the YouTube Ads Budget Calculator

Choose the ad type, then enter a monthly budget or a goal and the rates you expect: cost per view, cost per 1,000 impressions, cost per click or cost per conversion, from your Google Ads account or your own estimate. The calculator shows the views, impressions, clicks or conversions a budget buys, or the budget a goal needs, with the average daily budget, 18% GST and what happens if your rate moves by 20%. It has no built-in rates and runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Step 1

Choose the ad type: skippable in-stream or in-feed (cost per view), bumper or non-skippable (Target CPM), or Demand Gen for conversions.

  2. Step 2

Choose "I have a budget" or "I have a goal", then enter your rates from your Google Ads account or your own estimates, and any optional rates.

  3. Step 3

Read the results and the daily budget, tick GST if you want it added, then copy the summary or a link with your numbers.

How you pay for each ad type

With cost-per-view (CPV) bidding on skippable in-stream ads, you pay when a viewer watches 30 seconds of your video (or all of it, if it is shorter) or interacts with it, whichever comes first. In-feed ads are charged when someone clicks the thumbnail to watch the ad and, per Google Ads Help, when it plays in autoplay for at least 10 seconds. Bumper and non-skippable in-stream ads use Target CPM bidding, so you pay based on impressions.

Daily budget and GST

The calculator divides the monthly budget by 30.4, the average number of days in a month, to give an average daily budget. GST at 18% is charged on Google Ads purchases in India: IGST at 18%, or CGST 9% and SGST 9% when the bill-to address is in Haryana. Your GSTIN goes in the payments profile, under India tax info. Adding GST on top of the spend is our estimate.

What this tool cannot do

It works only from the rates you enter, so it cannot predict what the auction will charge or how many people will see your ad, and it has no typical or benchmark rates. Use your own Google Ads results, or a cautious guess, and update the numbers as results come in. It does not cover masthead or outstream ads, and it is not tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I spend on YouTube ads?

Start from a goal, such as the views or conversions you want in a month, and the rate you expect to pay: cost per view, cost per 1,000 impressions or cost per conversion. Choose "I have a goal" and the calculator gives the monthly and average daily budget. Our suggestion: if you have no results yet, start with a budget you are comfortable testing, then plan the next month from your own Google Ads numbers.

When do I pay for a view on a YouTube ad?

For skippable in-stream ads with CPV bidding, you pay when a viewer watches 30 seconds of your video, or the whole video if it is shorter than 30 seconds, or interacts with it, whichever comes first. For in-feed ads, you pay when someone clicks the thumbnail to watch the ad and, per Google Ads Help, when it plays in autoplay for at least 10 seconds.

How are bumper and non-skippable ads charged?

Both use Target CPM bidding, so you pay based on impressions; CPM is the cost per 1,000 impressions. Bumper ads are 6 seconds or less and viewers cannot skip them. Non-skippable in-stream ads are 15 seconds or shorter, and 30-second versions run mainly on TV screens. Enter your CPM and the calculator shows how many impressions a budget buys.

Which campaign should I use for conversions on YouTube?

Demand Gen. Video action campaigns were upgraded to Demand Gen, which runs conversion-focused ads on YouTube and also serves on Discover, Gmail and Display. It bids with Maximize conversions or Target CPA. Google suggests at least 50 conversions in the first 30 days, so start with Maximize conversions and move to Target CPA after about 50 conversions.

Is GST charged on YouTube ads in India?

YouTube ads are bought through Google Ads, and GST at 18% is charged on Google Ads purchases in India: IGST at 18%, or CGST 9% and SGST 9% when the bill-to address is in Haryana. Add your GSTIN under Billing, Settings, Payments profile, India tax info. It is mandatory for business accounts, and its state must match the bill-to state.
