How to use the Google Ads Policy Pre-check

Read what the guide says

This is the Google Ads Policy Pre-check.

Find capitals, symbols, phone numbers and claims in your ad text that may get it disapproved.

Paste your ad text with one asset per line,

and choose your industry if it is finance, healthcare, gaming, alcohol, education, real estate or legal.

Or press Try an example to fill in sample details.

Each line is checked in your browser. Flagged words are highlighted with the rule,

why it matters and a link to Google's policy page.

Copy the suggested rewrites,

fix the rest by hand and download the report as a CSV for your team or client.

It is not Google's review and cannot promise approval.

It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.

Try it free on this page.

Lines up to 30 characters are checked as headlines, up to 90 as descriptions. Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters count as 2.

Separate with commas. These keep their capitals.

Runs in your browser. Your text is not uploaded.

This is not Google's review

It is an automated pre-check against Google's published ad policies. Google's systems and reviewers decide: text that passes here can still be disapproved, and flagged text may be approved. Nothing here guarantees approval.

Paste your ad text to check it

Put one headline, description, callout or sitelink per line, or press Try an example. Each line is checked for capitals, punctuation, symbols, spacing, repetition, phone numbers and risky claims.

About the Google Ads Policy Pre-check

Paste your headlines, descriptions, callouts or sitelink text, one per line, and each line is checked against Google's editorial and claims policies. Capitals, repeated punctuation, emoji, symbols, spaced-out letters, repetition, phone numbers, web addresses, "#1" and "best" claims and guarantees are highlighted, with a rewrite where the fix is mechanical and a link to the policy. Notes on India's restricted categories show what needs certification or verification.

How it works

  1. Step 1

Paste your ad text with one asset per line, and choose your industry if it is finance, healthcare, gaming, alcohol, education, real estate or legal.

  2. Step 2

Each line is checked in your browser. Flagged words are highlighted with the rule, why it matters and a link to Google's policy page.

  3. Step 3

Copy the suggested rewrites, fix the rest by hand and download the report as a CSV for your team or client.

What it checks

Capitals used for emphasis, repeated or attention-grabbing punctuation, emoji, decorative symbols, letters spaced out, repeated words, generic text such as "click here", phone numbers that belong in a call asset, email and web addresses, unproven claims such as "#1" or "best", promises of a top Google position and guaranteed results or returns.

Restricted categories in India

Some industries need Google certification or verification before their ads can run in India, or are limited by Indian law. Financial services need Google's financial services verification, online pharmacies need certification, Google only allows ads for 0% alcohol drinks in India, and India's 2025 online gaming law bans ads for online money games. Each note links to Google's policy page.

What it cannot do

It is not Google's review and cannot promise approval. Google also looks at your landing page, targeting, account history and context the text alone does not show, and policies change. Treat every flag as "may be disapproved", and read the linked policy page when you are unsure.

Frequently asked questions

Why was my Google ad disapproved for punctuation and symbols?

Google's punctuation and symbols policy does not allow repeated punctuation such as "!!", symbols used for decoration such as ★ or ►, emoji, or symbols in place of letters, such as "fr€e". Punctuation used only to grab attention can also be disapproved. Edit the asset to use standard punctuation; Google re-reviews edited ads automatically, typically within 24 to 48 hours.

Can I put a phone number in my Google Ads text?

No. Google's editorial policy does not allow phone numbers in headlines or descriptions. Add the number as a call asset instead, so people on mobile can tap to call. Call assets have their own requirements: the number must be a working number for your business, and Google may need to verify it, for example by finding it on your website.

Can I use words like "best" or "#1" in Google Ads?

They are risky. Google's misrepresentation policy covers claims that are inaccurate or unlikely, so an unproven "#1" or "best" may be disapproved. If you use one, back it up on the landing page with a named source, award or ranking, or make it specific, such as your number of reviews and average rating. Guaranteeing a top position on Google is listed as an unreliable claim.

Do financial services ads need verification in India?

Yes. To show financial services ads in India, Google requires advertisers to complete financial services verification and show that they are licensed by the relevant Indian regulator, such as the RBI or SEBI, or are exempt. Personal loan ads must also meet Google's personal loans rules, including full repayment no sooner than 61 days and clear costs on the landing page.

Does passing this check mean my ad will be approved?

No. This is an automated pre-check of the text against Google's published policies, not Google's review. Google also checks your landing page, what you advertise, your targeting and your account, and some decisions depend on context. Use it to catch common problems before you submit, then fix any disapproval using the reason shown in your Google Ads account.
