How Google handles language

Google works out which languages a person understands from the language of their search, their settings and other signals, and puts ads in the language of the search first. From September 2026 Search campaigns no longer have a language setting: Google matches Search ads by the language of the ad. In Performance Max the language setting still applies on YouTube, Display, Discover and Gmail. Hindi is a supported ad language. Google does not say how it treats Hindi typed in Roman letters, so Hinglish ideas are worth testing rather than assuming.

Close variants and misspellings

Google's close variants apply to every match type and include misspellings, singular and plural forms and synonyms, so broad match and your English keywords may already reach some of these searches. The misspellings are mainly for reading your search terms report and for negatives: negative keywords do not match close variants, so add each form you want to block. Keep misspellings out of your ad text, as Google's editorial policy asks for commonly accepted spelling.

What this tool cannot do

It does not know how many people search for each idea, and it cannot see your account or your search terms. The dictionary, modifiers, spellings, match types and negatives are our suggestions, and the dictionary covers only common words for dental, fitness, salon, doctor and lab, home services, tuition, food and car or bike businesses. Treat every idea as a test, and keep only what brings enquiries.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Hinglish keywords if I already use broad match?

Maybe not all of them. Google says close variants, which include misspellings and synonyms, apply to every match type, and broad match can reach related searches. Google also shows people ads in a language they understand. Add the Hinglish ideas in their own ad group and check the search terms report: if your English keywords already bring those searches, you do not need the extra keywords.

Should my ads be in Hindi if I add Hindi keywords?

If many of your customers search in Hindi, test an ad in Hindi as well. Google puts ads in the language of the search first, and from September 2026 it matches Search ads by the language of the ad, without a campaign language setting. In Performance Max the language setting still applies on YouTube, Display, Discover and Gmail, so add Hindi there if those ads are in Hindi.

Does Google treat Hinglish as English or as Hindi?

Google does not say. Its help pages explain that it uses the language of the search, the person's settings and other signals to work out which languages they understand, but not how it labels Hindi typed in Roman letters. That is why the tool gives Hinglish ideas to test, and why the search terms report is the place to see what they match.

Why add Hinglish negative keywords?

Negative keywords do not match close variants, so an English negative such as "free" or "jobs" does not block "muft" or "naukri". The tool suggests Hinglish and Hindi negatives for free, jobs, courses, home remedies, meanings and shayari, as phrase match, and leaves out any word that would block one of your own keywords. Check the list against your services before you add it.

How do I add these keywords to Google Ads?

Copy a group and paste it into an ad group, or download the Google Ads Editor CSV. In Google Ads Editor, select Account › Import › From file, check the column headers, review the proposed changes, keep them and post. The file has Campaign, Ad group, Keyword and Criterion Type columns, with one ad group per idea group, and is saved as UTF-8 so Devanagari stays readable.
