How to use the NAP Consistency Checker

Read what the guide says

This is the NAP Consistency Checker.

Compare your name, address and phone across Google, your website and directories, and fix what differs.

Copy the name, address and phone from each listing into a row, exactly as shown,

or paste a table from a spreadsheet. Or try the example.

Or press Try an example to fill in sample details.

Tick the main version, usually your Google Business Profile. Each other listing is compared with it,

field by field, as you type.

Fix what is flagged, starting with "Do these first",

using the main version to copy. Download the comparison as CSV for your team.

It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.

Try it free on this page.

Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Copy the business name, address and phone exactly as each listing shows them, mistakes and all. Tick the main version, usually your Google Business Profile: every other listing is compared with it.

Up to 20 listings.

Paste a table instead

One listing a line: where it appears, name, address, phone. Copy the cells from a spreadsheet, or put | between the columns. A heading row is fine. This replaces the rows above.

About the NAP Consistency Checker

Paste your business name, address and phone number as they appear on each listing: your Google Business Profile, website footer, Justdial, Facebook, Instagram, IndiaMART, Practo and so on, as rows or a pasted table. Tick the main version. The tool tidies each one, writing out short forms such as Rd, Nr and Opp, comparing PIN codes on their own and phone numbers by their last 10 digits, then shows field by field which listings differ, with the differences marked. You get a consistency measure (our measure), a fix list in order, and your main version to paste everywhere. It runs in your browser and never visits the listings.

How it works

  1. Step 1

Copy the name, address and phone from each listing into a row, exactly as shown, or paste a table from a spreadsheet. Or try the example.

  2. Step 2

Tick the main version, usually your Google Business Profile. Each other listing is compared with it, field by field, as you type.

  3. Step 3

Fix what is flagged, starting with "Do these first", using the main version to copy. Download the comparison as CSV for your team.

What Google says, and what is our checklist

Google's guidelines ask for your real-world business name, "as used consistently on your storefront, website, stationery, and as known to customers", an accurate and precise address and a local phone number. Google says it gathers business information from several sources, such as websites, licensed data and user reports, and that if you do not answer a suggested edit within 4 days, it may publish it when other public information supports it. Google does not publish a rule that every directory listing must match your Business Profile, so matching them all is our checklist.

How the comparison works

Each field is tidied first: capitals, punctuation and spaces, common short forms such as Rd, Nr, Opp, Bldg and 1st, old city names such as Poona and Bombay, the state and "India". Phone numbers are compared by their last 10 digits, so +91, 0 and spaces do not count; TRAI says Indian fixed line and mobile numbers have 10 digits without the country code. The six-digit PIN code is compared on its own. A one-letter slip, a missing landmark or a shorter address is a small difference; other words, another PIN code or another number is a real one.

What this tool cannot do

It does not visit Google, Justdial or any other site, so it only knows what you paste: copy each listing exactly as it shows. It cannot edit a listing for you, find listings you have not found, or tell whether an address is real. The short-form list and the consistency measure are ours, not Google's, and a high measure does not promise a better ranking: Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence.

Frequently asked questions

What is NAP consistency?

NAP stands for name, address and phone number. Consistency means every place your business is listed, from your Google Business Profile and website to Justdial, Facebook and Practo, shows the same details, so customers call the right number and reach the right place. This tool compares them for you, field by field.

Does Google require my listings on other sites to match?

Google does not publish such a rule. Its guidelines ask for your real-world name as used consistently on your storefront, website and stationery, and Google says it gathers business information from websites, licensed data and user reports. Keeping every listing the same is our checklist, so nothing public contradicts your profile.

Does "Rd" instead of "Road" count as a difference?

No. The tool writes common short forms in full before comparing, such as Rd, Nr, Opp, Bldg, Soc and 1st floor, and ignores capitals, punctuation, the state and "India". Those listings show as "Same after tidying". A different PIN code, a different phone number or other words do count.

Which listing should be the main version?

Usually your Google Business Profile, once its details are right. Google asks for your real-world business name, an accurate and precise address of a staffed place (or service areas if you go to customers), and a local phone number rather than a central helpline where possible. Fix the main version first, then copy it everywhere.

Should my address include a landmark such as "Near the bus depot"?

Google says to include cross-streets or landmarks only where the official street address does not pinpoint the business, and to set the map pin if the address cannot be found. Many Indian addresses need one. If you use a landmark, use the same one everywhere: the tool counts a missing or different landmark as a small difference.
