About the Returns and RTO Reason Analyzer

Paste or open a returns or return-to-origin (RTO) report from your marketplace, shop or courier. The tool matches the columns (product or SKU, reason, quantity, value, date, return type, state and PIN code), groups the reasons into themes such as size or fit, damaged, wrong item, not as described, changed mind, late delivery, refused at the door and address problems, and shows returns by theme and product, a theme by product table, a monthly trend and RTO by state. Add your orders per product to get return rates, and your return shipping cost to see what returns cost you. You get a do-these-first list and CSV files. It runs in your browser: the report is not uploaded or saved.

How reasons become themes

Marketplaces and shops word return reasons differently, and buyers add their own comments, so the tool reads each reason and comment and matches words such as "size", "tight", "damaged", "wrong colour", "not as described", "refused" or "pincode" to a theme, in English and common Hinglish. This grouping is our measure: you can move any reason to another theme and the tables update. When the report has no return type column, refused and address reasons are counted as returns to origin, and the tool says so.

What the figures mean

Shares are of all return rows. A theme is flagged to fix at 25% of returns or more and to improve at 10%, and a product's return rate (returns divided by its orders) at 20% and 10%: these are our measures, not marketplace limits. The cost of returns is our estimate: your return shipping on every return, plus the value of goods you cannot resell times your cost as a share of the price. Under the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, a seller cannot refuse to take back defective, deficient or spurious goods.

What this tool cannot do

It does not sign in to Seller Central, Seller Hub, the Meesho supplier panel or your shop, and it does not know each marketplace's report format, so check the matched columns. Keyword matching can put a reason in the wrong theme, and a short or vague reason ends up in Other. The cost leaves out forward shipping, payment fees and marketplace charges on returns; the COD and RTO Cost Calculator covers those for RTO. Buyer details in the report stay in your browser and are never saved.

Frequently asked questions

What is RTO?

Return to origin: a parcel that could not be delivered and comes back to you, usually because the buyer refused it, could not be reached or the address was wrong. You pay shipping both ways and earn nothing on it. The tool counts RTO apart from returns that buyers send back after delivery.

Which reports can I use?

Any returns or RTO report you can save as CSV or copy from a spreadsheet: from Seller Central, Seller Hub, the Meesho supplier panel, your shop or your courier. The tool matches columns by words in the header, such as SKU, reason, quantity, refund, date, type and state, and you can change any match.

How do I get return rates by product?

Add how many orders each product had over the same dates, one product a line as "SKU, orders", or match an orders column if your report has one. The tool divides returns by orders for each product and flags rates of 20% or more to fix and 10% or more to improve, which are our measures.

How do I cut size and fit returns?

Our suggestions: add a size chart with garment measurements to every listing, say how the product fits and what size the model wears, and read buyer comments to see whether your sizes run small or large. The tool links each theme to the tools that help, such as the Size Chart Builder for size returns.

Is my returns report uploaded?

No. The report is read and analysed in your browser, on your device, and buyer details in it are never saved or sent anywhere. Only your cost settings are kept in this browser for next time. The CSV files you download are saved on your own device.
