The video

Each point gets its own part and chapter. A Short or an ad uses only the first.

Length and language

Minutes, or minutes:seconds such as 1:30. Shorts: up to 3 minutes.

Words a minute. 140 is our estimate: time yourself reading a paragraph to find yours.

Headings and lines to say

Hinglish changes the headings and the lines to say; the guidance and your own words stay as they are.

About the YouTube Script Outline Builder

Choose the type of video, add the topic, who it is for, your key points and a call to action, and set the length. You get a timed outline: each part's start time, length and approximate number of words at your speaking pace, with what to say and show, a chapter list that starts at 00:00, room for the end screen and a Shorts version. For a YouTube ad, choose a bumper, non-skippable or skippable in-stream ad script to get timed beats: the hook and your brand first, one message and the call to action. Headings can be in English or Hinglish. It uses templates, not AI, and runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Step 1

Choose the type of video or ad, and enter the topic, who it is for and your key points, one per line.

  2. Step 2

Pick a call to action, set the target length and, if you know it, your speaking pace in words a minute.

  3. Step 3

Copy the outline or download it as a text file, write each part in your own words, and check the chapter times after you edit.

How the time is split

Our suggestion: a short opening hook, a line on what viewers will learn, most of the time for your key points, an example or proof, and the call to action. The words for each part come from your speaking pace, 140 words a minute by default, which is our estimate. In videos of at least 25 seconds the last part is kept for the end screen, which YouTube shows in the last 5 to 20 seconds, with up to 4 elements. Ad scripts get three beats instead: the hook and your brand, one message and the call to action; in a skippable ad the hook fills the first 5 seconds, before viewers can skip.

Chapters and Shorts

The chapter list starts at 00:00 and follows YouTube's rules: at least three chapters in ascending order, each at least 10 seconds long, and the tool warns you when a part is too short or there are too few. The Shorts version takes the hook, your first point and the call to action; Shorts can be up to 3 minutes in a square or vertical shape.

What this tool cannot do

It gives a structure and prompts, not a finished script: it does not write with AI or know your subject, so the words are yours. The timings are a plan, so after you edit, change each chapter time to where that part really starts. It does not check your video or ad against YouTube's or Google's policies.

Frequently asked questions

How many words is a 10-minute YouTube video?

At 140 words a minute, our estimate of a comfortable pace, about 1,400 words, but people speak at different speeds, and pauses and demonstrations take time. Time yourself reading a paragraph aloud and enter your own pace; the outline shows the words for each part.

How should a business video start?

Our suggestion: say the question or show the result in the first few seconds, then say who the video is for and what they will learn. The outline gives a short opening hook and a "what you will learn" part before your key points, with prompts for each type of video.

Can it plan a YouTube ad script?

Yes. Choose a bumper ad (6 seconds or less, and viewers cannot skip it), a non-skippable ad (15 seconds or shorter) or a skippable in-stream ad, which viewers can skip after 5 seconds. You get timed beats with word counts: the hook and your brand first, one message and the call to action, with no chapters or end screen. About 30 seconds for a skippable ad is our suggestion. Check the finished ad in the YouTube Ad Specs and Copy Checker.

Can I turn the outline into chapters?

Yes. The outline gives a chapter list starting at 00:00: one chapter for the introduction, one for each key point, then the example and the next steps. YouTube shows chapters when there are at least three in ascending order and each is at least 10 seconds long. Update the times after you edit, then paste them into the description.

Can I make a Short from the same topic?

Yes. For a long-form outline the tool adds a Shorts version: a hook, your first point and the call to action in 60 seconds, which is our suggestion. Shorts can be up to 3 minutes, in a square or vertical shape; a 16:9 video stays long-form. Choose Short as the type to plan a Short on its own.
