About the Demand Gen Creative Checker

Choose the Demand Gen format (an image ad, a video ad, a carousel or an ad with your product feed), paste the headlines, long headlines and descriptions, pick the images and logo you plan to use and add your YouTube links with each video's shape and length. The tool checks them against Google's current Demand Gen specs: counts and character limits, the headline of 30 characters or fewer, image shapes and sizes, file size, the logo, video lengths and shapes, carousel cards and what product ads need, and flags text that may break Google's ad policies. You get our coverage measure, a do-these-first list and a clean copy of your text. Images are measured in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

      How it works

      1. Step 1

Choose the format, then enter the final URL, business name, headlines and descriptions, one per line, or press Try an example.

      2. Step 2

Pick your images and logo. For a video ad, paste the YouTube links and choose each video's shape and length; for a carousel, add one headline per card.

      3. Step 3

Fix what the do-these-first list shows, then copy the cleaned text or download the CSV and build the ad in Google Ads.

      What it checks

Google's Demand Gen specs: up to 5 headlines of 40 characters with at least one of 30 or fewer, up to 5 descriptions of 90, a business name of 25 and a square logo. Image ads take up to 20 images: horizontal 1.91:1 (at least 600 × 314) and square 1:1 (at least 300 × 300) are required, vertical 4:5 and 9:16 are optional, and each file can be up to 5,120 KB. Video ads take 1 to 5 YouTube videos of at least 5 seconds, with long headlines of up to 90 characters. Carousels take 2 to 10 cards in one shape, each with a headline of up to 40 characters.

Our coverage measure, not Ad Strength

The coverage figure is our own measure of how fully the ad is filled against Google's specs and recommendations, such as 5 headlines, 3 descriptions, 3 images of each shape, and a horizontal, a square and a vertical video. It stays below 50% until every required part is in place. Google Ads shows its own Ad Strength rating for each Demand Gen ad, and this tool does not reproduce it.

      What this tool cannot do

It cannot see what an image or video shows, and it does not contact YouTube or Google Ads, so you type each video's shape and length. Google's pages differ on a few limits, such as the logo minimum (128 or 144 pixels), the logo file size (150 KB or 5,120 KB) and the carousel description (40 or 90 characters); the tool warns at the safer figure. Shape matching allows a 1% difference, which is our measure. Policy flags are a pre-check of the text, not Google's review.

      Frequently asked questions

What are the Demand Gen image sizes?

      Horizontal 1.91:1 (1200 × 628 recommended, 600 × 314 minimum), square 1:1 (1200 × 1200 recommended, 300 × 300 minimum) and vertical 4:5 (960 × 1200 recommended, 480 × 600 minimum), plus an optional vertical 9:16 at 1080 × 1920 for YouTube Shorts. Each image can be up to 5,120 KB, and an image ad takes up to 20. Google suggests 3 of each shape for the most placements.

How long can Demand Gen headlines and descriptions be?

Headlines take up to 40 characters, and at least one must be 30 characters or fewer, or Ad Strength shows Incomplete and the ad may not serve on Display. Descriptions and long headlines take up to 90 characters, and the business name up to 25. An ad takes up to 5 headlines and 5 descriptions; Google recommends 5 headlines and 3 descriptions.

What videos can I use in a Demand Gen ad?

One to five YouTube videos per ad, public or unlisted, in horizontal 16:9, square 1:1, vertical 4:5 or vertical 9:16. Each must be at least 5 seconds long, and videos under 10 seconds cannot serve in YouTube in-stream. For a Good Ad Strength, Google looks for a horizontal, a square and a vertical video, or a horizontal video with video enhancements turned on.

How does a Demand Gen carousel work?

A carousel has 2 to 10 cards. Each card has its own image, a headline of up to 40 characters and, on YouTube and Gmail, its own final URL if you want one. Every card must use the same aspect ratio, so Google suggests a carousel in each shape. A headline and description at the ad level show with every card, and Discover uses that headline on all cards. Carousels cannot use a product feed.

What do I need for Demand Gen ads with products?

A Merchant Center account with approved products, linked to your Google Ads account. You can show image and products, video and products, or products only; a products-only ad takes one headline, one description and a business name. One product is enough to run, but Google recommends at least 4, and square product images. Demand Gen does not support regional availability and pricing feeds.
