About the RSA Asset Performance Analyzer
Upload or paste the asset report for your responsive search ads from Google Ads. For each ad group, the tool ranks headlines and descriptions by what the data supports (conversions per 1,000 impressions when there are enough conversions, otherwise CTR), marks the weakest ones to replace and the ones Google rarely shows, and checks pins against Google's advice, near-duplicates, the 30 and 90 character limits and policy and style flags. It also looks for missing themes such as a price, an offer or a place, and gives fill-in ideas. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
How it works
-
Step 1
In Google Ads, open Ads and select View asset details under a responsive search ad, or open the asset report for your campaigns. Add Impr., Clicks and Conversions and download the table.
-
Step 2
Drop the file here or paste the table. Add the areas you serve and the landing page if you want place and page checks.
-
Step 3
Pick an ad group, read the ranking and the checks, replace the weakest assets with the fill-in ideas, then copy the summary or download the CSV.
How Google reports assets now
Google has deprecated the Best, Good, Low and Learning performance labels for responsive search ad assets, because full statistics for each asset are now available for dates from 5 June 2025. Each asset gets its own impressions, clicks and conversions. One ad impression that shows three headlines adds an impression to each of them, so asset rows do not add up to the ad's totals.
How the tool ranks assets
Our measure: each headline or description is compared with the others of its type in the same ad group. When those assets add up to 30 or more conversions, we use conversions per 1,000 impressions; otherwise CTR. Small numbers are pulled towards the ad group average, an asset needs 300 impressions before we judge it, and 1.15 times the average or more is a top performer while under 0.6 times is one to replace. An unpinned asset with under 10% of the average impressions is marked as rarely shown.
What this tool cannot do
It reads only your export, so it cannot see the searches, the combinations shown or your Ad Strength. Asset results depend on which other assets they were shown with, so a ranking is a guide for your next test, not proof. Policy flags are our pre-check; Google's review makes the decision. It never signs in to Google Ads.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the performance label (Best, Good, Low) for my headlines?
Google has deprecated the Performance label column for responsive search ad assets because full performance statistics for each asset are now available, for dates on or after 5 June 2025. Add impressions, clicks and conversions to the asset report instead. This tool still reads the old label if an older export has it.
Should I pin headlines in responsive search ads?
Only when text must show. Google says pinning reduces the number of headlines or descriptions that can match a search, is not recommended for most advertisers and can affect Ad Strength. If you pin, pin 2 or 3 headlines or descriptions to each position. Text pinned to headline position 1 or 2 or description position 1 always shows; positions H3 and D2 are not guaranteed.
Why do my asset impressions add up to more than the ad's impressions?
Google counts an impression for every asset shown. If one ad impression shows three headlines and two descriptions, each of those five assets gets one impression. So compare headlines with headlines and descriptions with descriptions in the same ad group, which is what this tool does.
How many headlines and descriptions should a responsive search ad have?
A responsive search ad can have up to 15 headlines of 30 characters and up to 4 descriptions of 90 characters. Google's Ad Strength advice is to add more headlines and descriptions, make them unique, include popular keywords and pin only when needed.
What should I write when I replace a weak headline?
Google suggests focusing on what the customer gets, including prices, promotions or exclusives, and using specific calls to action. Our checklist also looks for a place and a proof point. Use the fill-in ideas, keep every claim true and on your landing page, and check new text in our Ad Copy Checker before you post it.
