About the AI Overviews and AI Mode Ads Readiness Checker
Tick the campaign types you run and answer Yes, No or Not sure to 16 questions on countries, language, match types, AI Max, bidding, ads, feeds, tracking and landing pages. You see, for each campaign type, whether its ads can show above or below AI Overviews, inside AI Overviews and in AI Mode, in Google's own words, plus what nobody can control, a score from our checklist and the fixes to make first. It runs in your browser, and the rules were checked against Google Ads Help on 16 October 2026.
How it works
-
Step 1
Tick the campaign types you run, such as Search, Shopping or Performance Max, and add your business name if you want it in the summary.
-
Step 2
Answer the questions from what you see in Google Ads, or pick Not sure. Questions for campaign types you do not run are hidden.
-
Step 3
Read where your ads can show, work through the do-these-first list, then copy the summary or print it for your team or agency.
Where ads can show around AI answers
Google Ads Help describes three places. Ads from Search, Shopping, Performance Max and App campaigns can show above or below AI Overviews wherever AI Overviews appear. Inside AI Overviews, only text and Shopping ads from Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns are eligible, and Google needs AI-powered targeting: broad match, AI Max, Performance Max, Shopping or Dynamic Search Ads. Ads in AI Mode are still being tested.
India, English and sensitive categories
Ads inside AI Overviews are available in English, on mobile and desktop, in 12 countries including India. Hindi is not on the list. Google does not show them for sensitive categories such as healthcare, finance, gambling, alcohol, adult content and politics. For AI Mode, Google has not published a country list, so ads there are not confirmed for India.
What this tool cannot do
It works from your answers and cannot see your account, so it cannot tell whether your ads have actually shown in AI Overviews. Google Ads has no separate report for these placements, and you cannot target them or opt out. The score is our checklist, not a Google rating. Google changes these rules often, so confirm on Google's page before you change a campaign.
Frequently asked questions
Can Google Ads show in AI Overviews in India?
Yes. Google Ads Help lists India among the 12 countries where ads can show inside AI Overviews, in English, on mobile and desktop. The ads come from Search campaigns with broad match or AI Max, Dynamic Search Ads, Shopping campaigns and Performance Max. Ads for sensitive categories such as healthcare and finance do not show there.
Do I need AI Max to show ads in AI Overviews?
No. Google names several routes: broad match keywords in a Search campaign, AI Max for Search, Performance Max, Shopping campaigns and Dynamic Search Ads. Google does tie its new AI Mode formats, Conversational Discovery ads and Highlighted Answers, to AI Max with text customization, but those are still tests.
Can exact and phrase match keywords show ads in AI Mode?
Google Ads Help names broad match, including AI Max, for ads in AI Mode and inside AI Overviews, and describes ads in AI Mode as a test. Exact and phrase match keywords on their own are not on Google's list. Google changes this often, so check Google Ads Help before you change match types for it.
Can I see how my ads perform in AI Overviews?
Not separately. Google Ads Help says there is no segmented reporting for ads inside AI Overviews; they are reported as Top ads. For AI Mode and AI Overviews searches, the search term in your reports is Google's best approximation of what the person meant, so review the search terms report regularly.
Can I stop my ads showing in AI Overviews?
No. You cannot target the placement or opt out of it. Your controls are the usual ones: negative keywords, which AI Max still respects, brand exclusions in AI Max, your locations and languages, and your bids and budget.
