About the GST Calculator
Type a price and tap the GST rate to add GST to it, take GST out of a price that already includes it, or find the price before GST that gives the amount you want to charge. Add as many items as you need at different rates: you get the GST split into CGST and SGST (or UTGST) for a supply within one State, or IGST between States, a total for each rate, and the result to copy or download as a CSV file. It works in whole paise and runs in your browser.
How it works
-
Step 1
Choose Add GST if your prices are before GST, Remove GST if they include it, or Find the price to work back from what you want the customer to pay.
-
Step 2
Pick where the supply is, within one State or between States, then type each item's quantity and price and tap its GST rate.
-
Step 3
Read the total, the GST and the split by rate, then copy the result as text or download a CSV file for your accountant.
How GST is worked out
Adding GST: GST = price × rate ÷ 100, so ₹1,000 at 18% carries ₹180 of GST and comes to ₹1,180. Taking GST out of a price that includes it: GST = price × rate ÷ (100 + rate), so ₹1,180 at 18% holds ₹180 of GST. Within one State, GST is charged as CGST plus SGST (UTGST in a Union territory) at equal rates, half each; between States, as IGST at the full rate. The calculator works in whole paise: CGST and SGST are each worked out at half the rate and rounded to the paisa, half a paisa up, so they are always equal.
The GST rates on the chips
After the 56th GST Council meeting, the main GST rates from 22 September 2025 are 5% and 18%, with a special 40% rate for a short list of goods such as pan masala, tobacco, aerated drinks and large cars. Some goods are nil-rated or exempt, and a few carry other rates: type any rate under Other. The rate depends on what you sell and its HSN or SAC code, so check yours with your CA.
What this tool cannot do
It does the maths only. It cannot tell you which rate applies to your product or service, whether you must charge GST at all, or what your place of supply is, and it does not add compensation cess. A business that is not registered for GST cannot collect GST from customers. It is not tax advice: check your rates and invoices with your CA.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate GST on a price?
Multiply the price before GST by the rate and divide by 100. For ₹2,500 at 18%: 2,500 × 18 ÷ 100 = ₹450 of GST, so the customer pays ₹2,950. Within one State that is CGST ₹225 plus SGST ₹225; between States it is IGST ₹450.
How do I take GST out of a price that includes it?
Multiply the price by the rate and divide by 100 plus the rate. For ₹1,050 at 5%: 1,050 × 5 ÷ 105 = ₹50 of GST, and the price before GST is ₹1,000. Choose Remove GST and the calculator does this for each item, with the split into CGST and SGST or IGST.
When do I charge CGST and SGST, and when IGST?
When your State and the place of supply are the same, charge CGST plus SGST at equal rates, half each, or CGST plus UTGST in a Union territory such as Chandigarh or Ladakh. When they are in different States, charge IGST at the full rate. Pick the right choice in the calculator and the split follows.
What price before GST gives a round total?
Choose Find the price and type the total you want. For ₹1,000 with 18% GST within one State, charge ₹847.46: CGST and SGST of ₹76.27 each bring it to exactly ₹1,000. For some totals no price to the paisa adds up exactly; the calculator then shows the nearest price and the gap, which you can cover with a round-off line.
Does the calculator round to the nearest rupee?
It keeps every amount in paise, rounding each tax amount to the nearest paisa. Under the result it also shows the total rounded to the nearest rupee, with the round-off amount, as many bills show. Whether you round your bill is up to you and your accountant.
