Product Page Checker for Google: Product markup, price and stock

Check a product page's Product markup, price, stock, identifiers, shipping, returns and search basics.

You need: A product page link Own shop Google Shopping

How to use the Product Page Checker

Read what the guide says

This is the Product Page Checker.

It checks a product page's markup, price, stock and search basics for Google.

Use it on a new product page, and after you change your theme or your prices.

A product page can qualify for merchant listings in Google through its markup alone.

Enter the address of one product page on your own shop.

Here, we press Try an example: a sample page for a made-up tea shop.

Press Check product page. We read the page's markup and the price it shows.

The score is our checklist, not a Google measure.

These tiles show the markup has the basics for a merchant listing and a product snippet.

Start with this box. Number one: the price in the markup isn't the price on the page.

Number two: no GTIN or MPN. Without a barcode, add your own part number as mpn.

What Google can read lists the markup's price, and the prices in the page text.

Open How to fix to see why it matters and the steps.

Why it matters: Merchant Center treats a price mismatch as a serious issue.

Make the markup take its price from the same field as the price on the page.

If you use Merchant Center, the feed needs the same price, with GST included.

Then test the page in Google's Rich Results Test, and check it here again.

You can also email yourself a PDF of the result.

How it works

  1. Enter the address of one product page on your own shop, copied from the browser's address bar. Press Try an example to fill in our sample page.

  2. We fetch the page as your server sends it, read its JSON-LD and check the product details, the price shown on the page and the search basics.

  3. Fix what is flagged, worst first, then test the page in Google's Rich Results Test and watch the Merchant listings report in Search Console.

About the Product Page Checker

Enter the address of a product page on your own shop, on Shopify, WooCommerce or any other platform. We fetch the public page and read its Product structured data the way Google's merchant listing and product snippet documentation describes it: the name, images, an Offer with price, currency and stock, brand and GTIN or MPN, and shipping and return policies. We also check that the price in the markup is shown on the page (our check), and the title, meta description, canonical link, noindex, share image and image alt text. Nothing signs in to your shop admin.

Merchant listings and product snippets

Google uses Product structured data in two ways. Merchant listings are for pages where shoppers buy from you, and need an Offer (not an AggregateOffer) with a price above zero and a currency. Product snippets suit review and comparison pages. Google recommends several product images of at least 50,000 pixels each, in 1:1, 4:3 and 16:9 shapes, and says markup and a Merchant Center feed together maximise eligibility.

Shipping, returns and matching prices

Since November 2025 you can set shipping and return policies for the whole shop in Search Console or with Organization markup (hasShippingService and hasMerchantReturnPolicy), and use product markup only for exceptions; settings in Search Console win over markup. Merchant Center compares the price in your product data, on the page and in the markup, and expects them to match, including during a sale.

What this tool cannot do

It reads the HTML your server sends, without running JavaScript, so markup or prices added by scripts are not seen, and it reads JSON-LD, not microdata. It checks one page, so a shop-wide policy set in Search Console, Merchant Center or on your home page is not visible to it. Finding the price in the page text is our check and can miss prices shown in images. Google decides whether to show a rich result; valid markup does not guarantee one.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between merchant listings and product snippets?

Merchant listing markup is for pages where shoppers can buy the product from you: it needs an Offer with a price above zero and a currency. Product snippets suit pages where people cannot buy directly, such as reviews and comparisons, and accept an Offer or an AggregateOffer. Search Console reports them separately, as Merchant listings and Product snippets.

Do I need Merchant Center to show products in Google?

Not for merchant listings: pages can qualify through structured data alone. Free listings, which can show products on Search, the Shopping tab, Google Images, Lens, Maps, YouTube and Gemini, need a Merchant Center account with a product feed, and Google does not guarantee that any product will be shown. Google says markup and a feed together maximise eligibility.

Should the price in the markup include GST?

For India, yes. Merchant Center asks sellers outside the US and Canada to include VAT or GST in the price, and expects the price in your product data, on the page and in the markup to be the same. Write it in the markup as a plain number, such as 1299.00, with INR in priceCurrency.

My products have no barcode. What do I put in gtin?

Nothing: leave gtin out. Merchant Center asks for the manufacturer's GTIN only where one exists, and does not want one made up or a SKU used instead. For products you make yourself, use your shop name as the brand and your own part number as mpn, and give each product its own sku.

Why does the checker not see my product markup?

Most often the markup is added by a script after the page loads, or the theme uses microdata instead of JSON-LD. This tool reads the JSON-LD in the HTML your server sends. Merchant Center's automatic item updates also need price, currency, availability and condition in that HTML, not added later by JavaScript. Test the page in Google's Rich Results Test to see what Google reads.
