How to use the AI Draft Clean-up Checker

Read what the guide says

This is the AI Draft Clean-up Checker.

Find chatbot lines, placeholders, unsourced figures and filler in a draft, and get a cleaned copy.

Paste the draft as you got it,

including any lines the chatbot added before or after it. Press Try an example to see a sample.

Or press Try an example to fill in sample details.

Fix the checks at the top first: chatbot lines,

placeholders and figures without a source. Each colour in your marked-up draft matches a check.

Copy the cleaned copy, fill in the placeholders,

check every fact and read it once more before you publish.

It is not an AI detector and cannot tell who or what wrote a text.

It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.

Try it free on this page.

English, Hindi and Hinglish all work. Results update as you type.

Tick this to keep marks such as ** and ## in the cleaned copy. Most website editors do not use Markdown, so they would show on the page.

Runs in your browser. Your draft is not uploaded, and no AI reads it.

Paste a draft to check it

You get leftover chatbot lines, placeholders, Markdown marks, claims with no source, dates to check, filler phrases and repeats, all marked in your text, plus a cleaned copy. Or press Try an example.

This is not an AI detector

It does not guess whether a person or a chatbot wrote the text. It finds things to fix before you publish, whoever wrote them. In our view, tools that claim to detect AI writing are not reliable enough to judge a text by, because people use the same words and patterns too.

What Google says about AI-written content

  • "Appropriate use of AI or automation is not against our guidelines." Using it mainly to manipulate search rankings is against Google's spam policies.
  • Using generative AI to make many pages without adding value for users may count as scaled content abuse.
  • Think about who made the content, how and why. Telling readers how AI was used helps where they would expect to know.

About the AI Draft Clean-up Checker

Paste a draft you wrote with ChatGPT, Gemini or another chatbot, or any draft you want to tidy. The tool finds what often slips through: chatbot lines such as "I hope this helps", placeholders such as [Your name] or ₹X,XXX, Markdown marks such as ** and ##, figures and "studies show" claims with no source nearby, relative or past dates, filler phrases, sentences that start the same way, phrases repeated across paragraphs, very long sentences, exclamation marks, emoji and mixed British and American spelling. Each one is marked in your text with a fix, and you get a cleaned copy without the chatbot lines and Markdown marks. It is not an AI detector and it does not rewrite your text. It runs in your browser, and your draft is not uploaded.

What Google says

Google's guidance says "Appropriate use of AI or automation is not against our guidelines", but using automation, including AI, mainly to manipulate search rankings is against its spam policies, and making many pages with generative AI without adding value for users may count as scaled content abuse. Google asks you to think about who made the content, how and why, and says AI disclosures are useful where someone might ask "How was this created?".

What the checks look for

Chatbot lines, placeholders and Markdown marks come from our checklist of common patterns, in English, Hindi and Hinglish. A figure or a claim such as "studies show" is flagged when neither its sentence nor the next one has a link or a named source (our measure). Years from the last 10 years are flagged unless they follow words such as "since" or "founded". Openings used 3 or more times, phrases of 5 or more words found in 2 or more paragraphs, and phrases from our filler list are marked too. The 25-word sentence limit comes from GOV.UK's writing guidance.

What this tool cannot do

It is not an AI detector and cannot tell who or what wrote a text. In our view, tools that claim to do that are not reliable enough to judge a text by. It cannot tell whether a fact is true, only whether a source is nearby. It does not write new sentences: the cleaned copy only removes chatbot lines and Markdown marks, so placeholders, filler and repeats are left for you to fix.

Frequently asked questions

Is it against Google's rules to publish AI-written content?

Not in itself. Google says "Appropriate use of AI or automation is not against our guidelines." Using it mainly to manipulate search rankings is against Google's spam policies, and making many pages with generative AI without adding value for users may count as scaled content abuse. What matters is whether the page helps the reader.

Will this tool tell me if a text was written by AI?

No. It finds things to fix, whoever wrote them. In our view, AI detectors are not reliable enough to judge a text by, because people use the same words and sentence patterns as chatbots. A human draft with a placeholder and an unsourced figure needs the same fixes.

Why are figures without a source flagged?

A chatbot can write figures and studies that sound right but are wrong. Google's guidance on helpful content asks whether information is presented with "clear sourcing". Find the original source and link to it, or remove the figure.

Should I tell readers that I used AI?

Google says AI or automation disclosures are useful for content where someone might think "How was this created?", and suggests adding them where readers would reasonably expect them. Our suggestion: if a chatbot wrote most of an article, add a line saying how it was made and who checked it.

Does it work with Hindi and Hinglish drafts?

Yes. Sentences are split at the danda (।) as well as at full stops, Devanagari words are counted correctly, and the checklist includes common Hindi and Hinglish chatbot lines and relative dates such as "आजकल", "इस साल" and "aajkal". The filler list and the spelling check are for English only.
