How to use the Keyword List Cleaner

Read what the guide says

This is the Keyword List Cleaner.

Trim, lower-case and de-duplicate a keyword list, drop words you list,

then sort it or split it by city.

Paste your keywords, one per line,

with the volume after a tab or comma if you have it,

or open the CSV you downloaded. Or try the example.

Or press Try an example to fill in sample details.

Choose what counts as a near duplicate, type any words to remove,

and pick how to sort and whether to split the list by words or by city.

Check "What changed" to see each merge and removal,

then copy the clean list or download it as CSV or plain text.

It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.

Try it free on this page.

One keyword per line, from any tool. A volume after a tab, comma or | is kept. Keyword Planner and Search Console downloads work too: the keyword column and Avg. monthly searches or Impressions are found for you.

Runs in your browser. Your keywords are not uploaded.

Clean up

Dental Implants Pune becomes dental implants pune. Hindi is not changed.

Takes out [ ], " ", + and a leading minus from Google Ads, and stray commas, colons and dots. Hyphens inside words stay.

Merge near duplicates (our measure)

Exact duplicates are always removed. Tick what else counts as the same keyword.

pune dentist and dentist pune

dental implant and dental implants, tooth and teeth

dentist in kothrud and dentist kothrud (in, for, of, the, ka, ki, में...)

check-up, check up and checkup

One per line or separated by commas. Whole words only; English plurals count too, so job also finds jobs.

What to do with them

Paste a keyword list to clean it

The clean list, the duplicates and near duplicates merged, what was removed and why, and copy and CSV buttons appear here as you type. Or press Try an example.

About the Keyword List Cleaner

Paste keywords from any tool, or open a Keyword Planner or Search Console download. The tool trims and lower-cases them, takes out Google Ads match symbols and stray punctuation, removes exact duplicates and merges near duplicates such as the same words in another order, a plural or an extra "in". It can drop keywords that contain words you list, such as your brand, "free" or "job", or take just those words out. It keeps the volume column if there is one, sorts the list, and can split it into lists by words you type or by Indian city. You get the clean list to copy, a CSV, and a list of every change and why. It runs in your browser, uses fixed rules, not AI, and never uploads your list.

How it works

  1. 01

Paste your keywords, one per line, with the volume after a tab or comma if you have it, or open the CSV you downloaded. Or try the example.

  2. 02

Choose what counts as a near duplicate, type any words to remove, and pick how to sort and whether to split the list by words or by city.

  3. 03

Check "What changed" to see each merge and removal, then copy the clean list or download it as CSV or plain text.

How near duplicates are found

Two keywords count as the same when they match after the steps you tick (our measure): words in any order, English plurals read as singular (teeth as tooth), small words such as in, for, the, ka and में left out, and spaces and hyphens ignored. Exact duplicates, the same keyword in other capitals or with extra spaces or punctuation, are always removed. Of each set, the tool keeps the version with the highest volume, or the first one in your list when there is no volume, and it does not add volumes together, so the same demand is not counted twice (our choice).

Why one version is usually enough

For Google Ads, close variants already cover plurals, reordered words with the same meaning and small words like "in" or "for", Google Ads Help says, so you do not need each version as its own keyword. Google Ads keywords can be up to 80 characters and 10 words; the tool marks any that are longer. For content, near duplicates usually belong on one page, and Google's spam policies count many similar pages made for each city or area that only lead visitors to one page as doorway abuse.

What this tool cannot do

It does not find new keywords, check search volumes or group keywords into themes: use the Keyword Grouper and the Question Clusterer for groups. It reads words, not meanings, so spelling variants such as pediatric and paediatric, short forms such as RCT, and synonyms are not merged, and a merge it makes may not suit you, which is why every change is listed. The city split knows major Indian cities and their other spellings, not every locality; type your areas to split by them.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove duplicate keywords from a list?

Paste the list here. Exact duplicates, including the same keyword in other capitals or with extra spaces, are removed straight away, and near duplicates are merged by the rules you tick. Copy the clean list or download it as CSV.

Can it keep the search volume column?

Yes. Put the volume after a tab, comma or | on each line, or open a Keyword Planner or Search Console download: the tool finds the keyword column and Avg. monthly searches, or Impressions for Search Console. When keywords are merged, the highest volume is kept.

How do I remove my brand name or words like "free" and "job"?

Type them in Words to remove, one per line or separated by commas. Choose Drop keywords to remove every keyword that contains them, or Take words out to keep the rest of the keyword. Matching is by whole words, and English plurals count too.

Can I split my keywords by city or area?

Yes. Choose By Indian city to sort them by the city they name, using a list of major cities and their other spellings such as Bangalore and Bengaluru, or By words I type to split by your own areas, such as kothrud, baner and wakad. Keywords that name none go to their own list.

Does it work with Hindi and Hinglish keywords?

Yes. Devanagari keywords are kept as they are, lower-casing only changes English letters, and small Hindi and Hinglish words such as का, में, ka and mein are left out when comparing near duplicates. Hinglish spellings of the same word, such as kitna and kitne, are not merged.
