About the Content Brief Builder
Type the keyword, who the reader is and what they want to do, then paste the headings of up to five top pages for that search. You get a brief to hand to a writer: working titles, the search intent, an outline that shows what most pages cover and what only one covers, the questions to answer, what only your business can add, sources to cite, internal links, a length range, a do and don't list and a checklist. It runs in your browser and writes nothing new itself: every line comes from your inputs, fixed templates and Google's guidance.
How it works
-
01
Type the main keyword, describe the reader in a line, and choose what they want to do and the page type.
-
02
Search the keyword on Google, open up to five top results and paste each page's H2 and H3 headings into its own tab, with the word count if you have it. Add customer questions, your own pages and voice notes.
-
03
Read the brief and change what does not fit, then copy it as text or Markdown, download it or print it for the writer.
How the outline is built
Each heading is reduced to the words that say what it is about: the keyword's own words, question words and places are taken out, and words like price and cost count as one. Headings from different pages that share at least half their words become one topic (our method). Topics that at least half of the pages cover go into the outline, with the H3s they usually sit under; topics only one page covers are listed as gaps you can choose to add.
Why the brief asks what only you can add
Google's guidance on helpful, people-first content asks whether a page gives original information and first-hand expertise, and whether content that draws on other sources adds real value instead of copying or rewriting them. A brief that only repeats the top pages leads to a page like all the others. So the brief gives the writer the topics readers expect, plus prompts for your own prices, cases, photos and steps.
What this tool cannot do
It does not visit the top pages or search Google: you paste their headings. It groups headings by shared words, not by meaning, so it can miss that two headings mean the same thing. The search intent and the length range are our measures, not Google's, and Google says it has no preferred word count. The brief is a starting point that an editor should still check.
Frequently asked questions
What is a content brief?
A content brief is what a writer gets before writing a page: the keyword, the reader, the outline, the questions to answer, the sources and links, and the tone. A good brief saves rewrites, because the writer knows what the page must cover and what only your business can add.
How do I copy the headings from a competitor's page?
Open the page and copy each heading, or use your browser's developer tools to find its h2 and h3 tags. Paste one heading per line: lines like "H2: Cost" or "## Cost" are read as headings, and indented lines as H3. Pasted HTML works too; only the heading tags are read. Add the page's word count on a line such as "Word count: 1850".
How long should my article be?
As long as your reader needs. Google says it has no preferred word count, and its SEO Starter Guide says the length of the content alone does not matter for ranking. The range in the brief is the middle of the word counts you paste from the top pages, our measure: a rough idea of how much ground they cover, not a target.
Does this tool write the article?
No. It does not use ChatGPT or any other AI model, and it does not write new sentences. It arranges what you give it: the outline comes from the headings you paste, the titles from fixed templates filled with your keyword, and the rules from Google's guidance. The writing is for your writer.
Should I use the same headings as the top pages?
No. The outline shows topics, not text to copy. Google's people-first questions ask whether content that draws on other sources adds substantial value and originality instead of simply copying or rewriting them. Write your own headings in your readers' words, and add what only you know.
